Kind, modern, science-led help with raising your puppy

Online sessions also available across the UK

Raising a puppy is about much more than just training

Puppies need kind guidance to help them to learn to feel secure in their new home and to learn how to behave appropriately with their new human family.

They need support to help them grow in confidence and optimism when encountering new sights and sounds in the wider environment and when meeting other people and animals.

Puppies are most receptive to social learning during their first three months or so of life, equally they can be easily frightened and overwhelmed during this time, needing help to bounce back and develop resilience.

Raising a puppy requires thoughtful effort, patience and time. A considered, educated and evidence-based approach is required.

“Sorrel was wonderful”

“As first time dog owners we really appreciated the pre-puppy visit so we could ask all our questions and get reassurance. She was very good at addressing all the issues and subsequent questions that came up and we loved her calm positive approach. Her detailed emails after each visit were super useful and we still refer to them. They say the proof is in the pudding and everything we learnt with Sorrel - and practised since - works brilliantly.”

Bonnie’s caregiver

I can help with the challenges that puppies bring.

Welcoming a new puppy into the family can often be much harder work than envisaged by their human caregivers.

Couple this with the conflicting advice available on what to do/what not to do, especially when it comes to common puppy struggles such as play biting, house training, night-times and over excitement and it’s easy to appreciate why things can start to seem overwhelming to caregivers.

I can cut through the conflicting advice and help you to raise your puppy and give him the best start.

My methods are modern, kind and entirely reward-based. Reward-based learning is recognised as the most advantageous and least harmful to the learner*. This means I use food and toys, for example, as rewards. I also include games and encourage you to have fun with your puppy, as part of the learning process, which will help you to build a super strong bond. I also discuss body language, stress & anxiety and, where relevant, appropriate interaction between puppies and children.

“We have a calm, happy, well-behaved dog”

“Having a puppy can be so daunting, but Sorrel is kind, thoughtful and sensitive – her understanding of the way dogs “tick” and ability to share that with us has resulted in us having a calm, happy and well-behaved dog.”

Puppy Troubles?

If you’re finding things difficult, tiring and not really what you’d imagined, you’re not alone.

I can give you a helping hand so that you have the support and techniques you need to enjoy puppyhood again.

Sessions are 1-2-1 and can be in person starting in your home (depending upon your location) or via zoom, which works well for puppy training.

“Sorrel is professional, kind, friendly and easy to talk to and most of all is extremely knowledgeable.

Our sessions gave me confidence and helped me understand how best to manage the various hurdles of having a puppy!

Sorrel was always happy to answer any questions and give her advice as to how best to move forward with the various training techniques. With her help and support we were able to house train Otto quickly and get him into a great routine.

I found having one to one sessions invaluable as Sorrel was able to tailor her sessions to our own needs, home set up and circumstances. We also had a session in a local park which was brilliant for recall training and general lead walking.

I would certainly recommend Sorrel to friends and am so pleased to have found a trainer who is so caring and compassionate about dogs, Otto is always very happy to see her!”
